Nov. 6–When Kristie Carlon bought her first house five years ago, the property needed some work.
But instead of calling a contractor, she bought a home-repair book and decided to do it herself. Since then, she has retiled the bathroom and kitchen floors, repaired the garbage disposal and painted the house. She is now so confident about home repairs that she didn’t flinch when her water heater broke last month.
